Mitchell Taylor, CSI CDT, Director of Architectural Services with Woodwork Institute: The Taylor family has been in the woodworking business since 1929. Mitch started work at Taylor Millwork and Stair Co. as a teenager, and after attending Cal State Dominguez Hills he went to work there full time in 1974. Starting out in the mill, he worked his way through all parts of production, assembly and installation of both casework and stairs. This provided the practical knowledge required to move into estimating, detailing and engineering. In 1984 he was a co-founder of Taylor Brothers Stair Co., and was involved in all aspects of the business. The company specialized in high end residential and commercial projects. The work encompassed every variety of high quality millwork and casework, with an emphasis on circle stairs and radius components. Design and engineering were the most interesting part of the business, particularly on projects requiring unique solutions to difficult situations and design parameters. In 2011 Mitch joined Woodwork Institute as a Director of Architectural Services. Besides inspections, he provides AIA seminars, specification review, and technical advice to both design professionals and architectural millwork companies.
